WORK HARD, DREAM BIG AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.

Dennis Schröder was born on September 15th, 1993 in Braunschweig, Germany. Already from an early age on he was interested in sports and became especially enchanted with skateboarding. He and his friends would spend nearly all of his free time at the neighborhood halfpipe in Braunschweigs Prinzenpark. For the boys, skating was their whole world, and they held many well-known skaters in high esteem.
From time to time when the boys took a break from skating, they’d occasionally shoot some hoops at the court next door. For Dennis, it was just for fun - or so he thought. One day, he was approached by Coach Liviu Călin at that very spot. Călin had been eyeing young Schroeder’s moves on the court and saw his potential. He invited Dennis to train at the professional club “SG Braunschweig.” Dennis accepted the invitation and just like that, the foundation was laid for an unprecedented career.

Dennis’ days on the court in Braunschweig’s Prinzenpark helped him find his footing early on in his basketball career. He consistently performed well, improving his skills and gaining experience. His father especially followed his development with great enthusiasm. Dennis promised him that one day he would become a household name in the NBA.

Then, at just sixteen years old, Dennis suffered a major setback that would have meant the end of a promising career for so many others: His father, who until then had been his biggest supporter, died unexpectedly of a heart attack. Even in times of deepest grief, Dennis pledged to keep his promise and make his father proud. He wanted to get it into the NBA – no matter what it took.

With the goal of joining the NBA in mind, Dennis began to work even harder. The promise he had made to his father motivated him to exceed even his own expectations. At the age of eighteen, Dennis joined the Premier League team of the “Phantoms Braunschweig” (today “Basketball Löwen Braunschweig“) and completed his first season in the German National League in 2011/2012.

In the next season, his hard work began to pay off, and he successfully established himself as a starting player on his team. In 2012/2013 his ironclad will and adamant work ethic earned him the title of Most Improved Player and the most promising rising talent (U24) in Germany.
